Available to both adults and children, braces are the most widely used tool in orthodontic treatment today. Braces are bonded to the teeth allowing to allow the teeth to be aligned into their desired position.
Braces work by applying a light force to your teeth that moves them over a period of time. Wires run through the centre of the Braces and are tied into them by elastomeric rings, wires or gates. This allows your teeth to align and for your smile aesthetics to improve beautifully. How long this takes depends upon how far the teeth need to be moved, the age of the patient and your individual variability. Braces can be clear and aesthetic or as colourful as you like. The colours are very popular and can be changed at each visit.

The best age for children to begin orthodontic treatment varies depending on their individual needs. A good age for your child’s first visit is around eight or nine years of age. Sometimes potential problems can be detected at this stage and avoided by interceptive orthodontic treatment. This may mean less or no treatment is required later.
Your dentist will usually advise you if your child needs to see an orthodontist earlier than this age. Seeing an orthodontist at a younger age may sometimes be necessary if a permanent tooth is erupting in the wrong place. The staff at Centenary Orthodontics can advise you if an orthodontic assessment is necessary.
You are not too old for Orthodontic Treatment!
Many adults come to us at Centenary Orthodontics at our Brisbane City Orthodontic practice as it is a convenient location for many working people. Most orthodontic appointments are short so they can be fitted in during the working day. Adult patients may take longer to treat as they are no longer actively growing; however treatment is still possible in most cases. Sometimes a shorter treatment plan or fast orthodontic treatment is chosen focusing on the patient’s primary concern. Where possible Invisalign Treatments are often preferred by adults as it has minimum impact on socialising and is less painful. The aligners are removable by you the patient, so it is easier to keep your teeth clean and gums healthy.
If you are not suitable for Invisalign then clear braces are available. The state of the art braces we use look virtually unnoticeable to other people. Even our metal Braces are slim and low profile and are available in a variety of colours or just plain.
